Children's Hospices UK and Openwork - A pioneering partnership

Openwork 200pxThe Openwork Foundation is our main corporate supporter sponsoring our work in care development and public affairs since 2005.

"Openwork, through its Foundation, is delighted to be in partnership with Children's Hospices UK. Each and every one of the UK's 44 children's hospices is an inspirational centre of excellence with dedicated staff and a high level of expertise. Despite this, financial support from statutory authorities is minimal so any support we can give to promoting their work and their need for more financial aid - be it from the government or other corporate sponsors - can only be good. Working together, Openwork and Children's Hospices UK will make a difference." Martin Davis, Chief Executive of Openwork.

The Openwork Foundation is the community involvement programme of Openwork, a financial services distribution company, and currently supports young people who are socially, physically or mentally disadvantaged with a view to helping them move from dependence to independence through its Cares 4 Kids programme. The Openwork Foundation is  funded by donations from its people and supporters and is part of the Zurich Community Trust, the registered charity.

Supporting Public Affairs

Since 2006, the Openwork Foundation has enabled Children's Hospices UK to:

  • lobby with partners to secure £10 million a year for children's hospice services in England from 2006 until March 2011
  • campaign with partners to help secure £30 million for children's palliative care services in 2009 to implement the children's palliative care strategy "Better Care: Better Lives" until March 2011
  • provide support to England's children's hospices to enable them to have effective and fruitful partnerships with commissioners through guidance and training workshops
  • secure a manifesto pledge for children's hospices in England from the Conservative party in January 2010

Openwork Foundation's ongoing support enables Children's Hospices UK to ensure that children's hospice services are kept at the forefront of the political agenda.

The Future 2011/12

In order to achieve maximum impact Openwork will focus future funding on External Affairs with a view to enabling Children's Hospices UK to leverage statutory funding for all children's hospice services.
