The X Factor charity single, a cover of Rose Royce classic
'Wishing on a Star', was launched on Sunday, 27 November live on
ITV. The single was performed on X Factor by the last sixteen
contestants as well as JLS and One Direction.
All net proceeds will go to Together for Short Lives who work to
ensure that all families of children unlikely to reach adulthood
can make the most of their lives, with money raised going to local
children and their families across the UK.
An appeal film shown on the night features the Lloyd family who
have three lively boys diagnosed with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy;
ordinary people leading extraordinary lives.
Families like the Lloyds are supported by Together for Short
Lives, the only charity representing the estimated 23,500 children.
The charity was handpicked by Simon Cowell, who is a patron and has
supported the organisation for a number of years.
Simon Cowell, patron of Together for Short Lives comments on his
involvement in the charity, "I have seen first-hand the invaluable
care and support they offer to thousands of young people and their
families, so I am thrilled that the X Factor charity single this
year will benefit this charity.
"Whenever I spend time with these children and families, I realise
just how many challenges they face. And when I visit the
places that help them, like a children's hospice, it is clear to
see that they are an incredible lifeline to the families that use
them. But they are more than just a building and a lot of
support is also given in the home. And it's not just the kids, it's
the parents and well brothers and sisters that need help.
Every one of these services relies on the public's generosity to
maintain what they're doing, otherwise they don't exist - that's
the reality. The X Factor charity single is an opportunity to help
them."
